Every so often I hear someone criticize Facebook as a place where people waste time and check out drunk photos of strangers.
Well, sure, it can be that.
But it can also be a lot more. It’s all in what you make of it. Kind of like life.
Life can be a frivolous pursuit, filled with drunken nights and lazy days. And that’s okay, if that’s all you’re looking for.
But life can also be a dynamic, rich experience, where you interact with interesting people and build great relationships.
For some reason, many people don’t …
Finding a Job, or Vice Versa »
Like it or not, the world ‘lives’ on Facebook these days. It is the hub for virtually everything that happens online. It is where people go to coordinate their social lives. It’s where we share stuff. It’s where we go to find stuff. It’s our network. It’s our life.
So why the hell would you leave your work info off of your profile?
As someone who looks for talent on a pretty regular basis, I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when I see a Facebook profile with no work history …

I recently ran into an old friend on Facebook, someone I hadn’t talked to in a dozen years. We traded private messages and it was great hearing what was up with his life.
But about 24 hours later, I realized how he was really using Facebook. None of his status updates were about his kids or his travels, or his life.
They were along the lines of “THE MOST STUPENDOUS INCOME OPPORTUNITY IN THE HISTORY OF HEALTH PRODUCTS! WHO WILL WIN THE BMW THIS WEEK????”
“TEAM RED IS OUT FRONT BY 22% THIS …

I finally watched The Social Network, the movie. Very good.
But after I saw all the pieces of the jigsaw together, I immediately constructed a theory in my mind.
I am convinced that Mark Zuckerberg ordered ans sponsored this film. And why?
Well, the more famous he became, more versions of his story started to pop up.
Books, articles, blogs, gossip. That’s bad for business and, I believe, bad for the stomach of any 20-some year old guy.
So, why not tell the world his own version? And who else could do this with a …

So this guy thinks he’s going to kill all ad agencies. If I hadn’t heard that line about a thousand times before, I might be a little bit afraid.
But his overreaching hyperbole does not negate the fact that our business has never seen change at the rapid pace we are seeing currently.
Advertising experienced a revolution when TV became king about 50 years ago. But that’s nothing compared to what we’ve seen in the past 3 years.
The explosion of social media has been thrilling and terrifying at the same time. Companies …

Here it is:
“Be different or you will be obsolete and out of work watching everyone else around you do well while your sorry, status quo ass is be begging for their pizza crust. Innovative thinkers are awesome—playing it safe is for morons.”
Did I leave anything out? Not trying to give an attitude. I’m just trying to say that I get it—social media is the future. Facebook and Twitter are awesome. What else can you tell me?

Nothing like a long weekend to put things in perspective.
Yeah, sure, I worked most of the weekend, but I still had enough free time to realize something.
We need to slow down.
Even though we work in an industry where being up to speed on everything is important.
And despite the fact that staying clued in via social networking sites and blogs is a key part of our jobs.
Once in a while, we need to step away from the computer, turn off the TV, and just do nothing.
It will keep us sane, help …

Tweet or not to Tweet? I have not. And I really don’t see the point for me personally, but this article today in the Times is interesting and is making me give following some artist I think are cool a second thought.
I’m curious to know if its helpful work wise or fun wise for you?

Unlike Facebook, whose builders strive to make it an ever more organized social network, Twitter seems to thrive on being a jumble.
It is an egalitarian sort of mess: Twitter does not sort its users …

When I watch 20-year-old artists like Taylor Swift on the Grammy’s, I feel old. When I watch 60-year-old artists like The Who perform during the Super Bowl halftime show, I feel young.
You know what song I haven’t heard in a while? Had a Bad Day by the guy who’s name I can’t remember.
The reactions from the guys at the bar down the street is a more accurate Super Bowl commercial ad meter than the USA Today.
The Super Bowl commercials were just fine.
The new Facebook layout is just fine.
