Reading the adland trade press gets tiresome sometimes.
Fear! Scream! Panic!
Everything is changing!
Such ridiculous hype, all in the name of attracting fearful readers.
Everything is not changing.
Technology is changing. Communication forms are changing.
But guess what?
Those things have always been in a state of change.
Ever hear of a kooky little thing called the Industrial Revolution? Or Morse Code?
What is not changing – despite what the shills who make their money consulting or publishing business books would have you believe – are people.
Years and years and years ago – when the Commodore 64 was …

Was skimming AdAge and came across this article. A very interesting perspective that excites, saddens and scares. Excites because of the possibilities it presents to people like me in the agency world. Saddens because it does reduce life to binary and squashes serendipity and surprise. Scares because of for every good thing that can be done with the technology, there are 50 bad things. Have a read. See what you think, click the pic to check the Article:

Bringing us all together, making our world smaller… And man, do I really love getting the New York Times on my iphone. But what seems to be happening for some folks is they are now able to narrow their focus so much so they only see the world through their glasses… I think that’s a real shame (as I read my liberal paper).
So on that note, here is interesting site I ran across that… is trying to set the net straight… it attracts seven million to eight million unique visitors …

I like new technologies a lot. No, I am not a nerd.
But I really like to read about them, buy the ultimate stuff, work with them and entertain myself with them.
Probably that’s why something has been bothering me for some time in the movies and in some advertising films.
What happened to realism? Why everything has to look so cartoonish?
How many movies you have seen recently with beautiful cloudy pink and orange skies? Harmonic, symmetrical buildings in an impossible aerial travelling shot through a city? Fake backgrounds, movements, superheroes, monsters and …

Tweet or not to Tweet? I have not. And I really don’t see the point for me personally, but this article today in the Times is interesting and is making me give following some artist I think are cool a second thought.
I’m curious to know if its helpful work wise or fun wise for you?

Unlike Facebook, whose builders strive to make it an ever more organized social network, Twitter seems to thrive on being a jumble.
It is an egalitarian sort of mess: Twitter does not sort its users …

For the record, I don’t have a blender fetish.
Or even a blender, for that matter.
But amazon.com thinks I do.
Why else would they be sending me so many blender-centric emails every week?
Maybe it’s because I used amazon when I bought my wife a blender for Christmas.
I get lots of emails from amazon – too many, really.
But I haven’t unsubscribed from their mailing list – yet – because usually said emails are useful, keeping me in the loop with new music releases or books related to any of my many non-blender fetishes.
And …

I was at CES last week with 120,000 other folks. (I think we all went on the same day.) It’s a great show, not because of the quality of the tech, but because of the way it so transparently highlights the distance between those that have, and those that have not.
The big household brands taking up huge areas of floor space with extravagant displays costing many millions of dollars in one area, like a gated community of millionaires. At the other end of the complex, small Asian manufacturers of keyboards, …

Why is it that so many online ads still insist on being annoying, intrusive and an all-around pain in the ass?
You see them every day—the pop ups, the roll-overs and those straight-from-hell expanding ads at the top of pages. Plus, my personal favorite—the ones that have the ‘hidden’ close buttons.
I’ll be honest here, while I have a fair amount of digital experience, I do not consider myself an ‘expert’. So perhaps I’m missing something. But it really seems that online advertising—much more so than any other form—goes out of its …
