James Brown
I didn’t want to be a lawyer.
So I went into advertising.
As an account executive.
For eight years.
Then I became a writer.
My first book was terrible.
So was my first job.
But my book got better.
So did the jobs.
I started freelancing.
I did that for seven years straight.
I worked all over the country on every kind of account imaginable.
Even caskets.
It was fun.
Profitable.
Then I got married.
So I got a full-time gig.
I helped open and run an office for Arnold in Los Angeles.
I got to say, “Creative Director” a lot.
We built an agency from scratch.
Including the furniture.
It was the hardest job I ever had.
It was the best job I ever had.
Then Arnold lost VW.
I lost a job.
I started freelancing again.
Helped lead a couple of winning pitches.
Did a campaign that got me my next job.
But it wasn’t, as they say, “a good fit.”
So I moved back to freelancing ‘till something much, much better came along.
I’m now CD at Pereira & O’Dell, a remarkably hot new shop in San Francisco.
We do great work.
We throw some awesome parties.
You should come by some time.
Ask for me.

I like your work and wrote a little not about your agency this week at andjuniorshakers.com. Cheers.
